What needs to be done?

The first of the Crufts Qualifiers is at Wellingborough between the 5th and the 7th July. We have 2 shows between now and then as Lillies trial run. To really have a shot at it, both Lilly and I have work to do.

For myself I need to get fitter, slimmer and faster to really do Lilly justice. This gives me 6 weeks as my initial goal. In that time, I have the following aims:-

  • For me to lose 6kg in weight
  • To run 5k within 30 minutes
  • To improve my strength, through weight training.

In relation to Lilly, I need to get her doing the following:-

  • To get her jump fit
  • To get her weaving consistently, all 12 weaves.
  • To be confident and accurate with her running dog walk contacts, both at home and on unfamiliar dog walks.
  • To be confident on the A frame and the seesaw, at home, and at other venues.
  • To consistently, and accurately, take the contact equipment and the weaves, as part of a full course.
  • To deal with the environment of a big show, without performance anxiety.

Wow! seems a lot to do in 6 weeks. However in just the last couple of weeks Lilly has already come such a long way. She is now doing 12 weaves confidently most attempts, her seesaw is wonderful at home, and her A frame is good but needs confidence growing.

The two shows prior to the first qualifier will hopefully, give her the show experience and confidence. She is a little worrier, so I need to make sure that my instinctive disappointment about mistakes, is kept in check so that she has no idea. I need to grow her confidence, and grit at competition.

I will update you further tomorrow, with our progress, and more details on how I plan to break down these goals, and the plan going forwards.
