Getting there!

The waiting to board a shuttle was absolutely excruciating, we ended up waiting for about 3 hours, this meant that we didn’t arrive in France until about 17:00hrs, with the time difference.  Due to this lost time I decided that it would be best to drive through the night rather than stopping.

The weather upon landing in France was awful, so as the light went the fog and rain increased.  My first real driving on the right hand side of the road was in absolutely dreadful conditions.  I won’t lie it was not the easiest but having a break every 4-6 hours helped.

The dogs were amazing, sleeping through most of the trip.  They toileted when requested, and otherwise slept or looked out of the window, they were really good dogs.  At one point the engine management light came on, as expected, this happened at the worst possible time – about 3 am.  I parked up and turned off the engine, watered and toiletted the dogs at a service station.  I was obviously really worried about this, there was still over 500km still to go, what was wrong with the car?  I had a lot of work done on the car prior to this trip – including work on a problem involving the engine management system.

After a 10 minute break I started the car again, and there was no sign of the engine management light, I got back on the motorway and thankfully there was no further problems with the light coming on.  At about 7am as the dawn was breaking I drove over the Pyrenees.  It was absolutely beautiful, though I did wonder at the speed limits of 90, 100 and in places 120 km per hour.

Driving through Spain was uneventful but beautiful, and the weather was lovely and warm.  We arrived at the hotel at about 2pm, and having unpacked the car, had a well deserved sleep.
