Day 1 – I awoke still very tired from the drive across France, so decided to visit a dog friendly beach. Something to bear in mind when planning the trip was the difference in climate to the UK, Taking UK dogs from one climate to another should be considered. As a dog trainer and competitor in dog sports my dogs are used to working in both cold and warm, sometimes hot temperatures. One of the things that I have noticed is that if temperatures remain steady then dogs acclimate very well – if we get a prolonged hot spell in the UK, within a few days the dogs are able to continue almost as normal, it is the changeable weather we tend to get in the UK that makes it difficult for our dogs, To let the dogs get acclimated to the difference in temperature (17 deg C), and me to rest up from the drive, a short spell on the beach was what I felt we needed. .
This is one of two beaches that are dog friendly all year round, though like the UK – the beaches in Spain allow dogs on them when the summer season is over. The dogs absolutely adored the beach. We spent about an hour playing – running in and out of the waves and chasing a ball in and out of the water.
We didn’t do a great deal else today – but this is the start of a month long adventure.
